Dr. George Kuhn
A 64 year old professor of anthropology who has spent the better half of his life in the desolate regions of the world, is now a broken man stricken with guilt. Torn between a passion for field research and his responsibilities to his dying wife, he must make a difficult decision when one last opportunity for adventure is presented.
Kuhn is a complicated character who perpetually questions his own morality throughout the story. Though outwardly he appears to be an honorable man, there is a degree of selfishness that he hides by rationalizing the importance of his role in the quest to discover the mysterious fate of the Atacameno tribe. In the end, he still chooses to abandon his wife and deny his daughter for one last dose of freedom which he believes will rejuvenate his tired soul. It is within this guilt that Kuhn finds an unexpected connection with Mark Rosemont, a crucial turn of the story which enables the plot to unfold.
